The bakery

A village shop, on Maryport Road.

Doors open at half-six. Bread out first, pies behind them, deli set by opening. We bake to sell out — not to keep over. Find us in Dearham, between Maryport and Cockermouth.

For parties, wakes, family gatherings and anything in between — give us a few days and we'll raise pies to size, set a buffet, or put a sweet spread together. Phone the shop and we'll talk it through.

Savoury or sweet. Pies, traybakes, sandwiches, cream cakes — anything off the counter.

A few days' notice and we'll have it ready. More for the bigger jobs — give us a ring.

Tom Hodgson opened Cottage Pie in Dearham in 1984. Same recipes, same village, three generations behind the counter — Nigel, Zoe and granddaughter Poppy raising the pies the way Dad set them down.

A few things people ask.

Yes — bespoke buffets and set buffets for parties, wakes, events and gatherings. Give us a call on 01900 817 003 and we'll talk through what you need.

Of course. Phone ahead a day or two and we'll raise pies to size — a Sunday-supper pie, a party pie, or anything in between — and set them aside for you.

Steak, meat and potato, steak and cheese, bacon and egg, and Cumberland sausage — those are the regulars. Phone ahead if there's something particular you want set aside.

Fresh bread, teacakes, traybakes, cream cakes and biscuits. Plus a deli counter — homecooked meats, Cumberland sausage, British cheese, free-range eggs, fresh milk and salads.

Monday to Friday, half-six in the morning through to half-five. Saturday, half-six through to half-one. Closed Sundays.

Tom Hodgson opened Cottage Pie in Dearham in 1984, after years on the butcher's block at Maryport Co-op and the Moota butchery. Nigel and Zoe run things now, with Poppy on the counter.
