A note from the studio

About

We started Norwich Pottery Studio in 2020 because we wanted a place where anyone — complete beginners included — could sit down at a wheel, get their hands in the clay and leave with something they made themselves. No previous experience, no fuss, no pretension. Just clay, kilns, glazes, and the time and space to learn.

Your first class

What actually happens in week one.

  1. 01

    Arrive at Sapphire House

We're in the large white building at the bottom of Roundtree Way — free parking on site, lift access if you need it. Wear something you don't mind getting clay on.

  2. 02

    Meet your wheel

Aprons, tools and clay handed out. Your tutor walks you through centering, the bit everyone worries about — and we promise no one gets it on the first try.

  3. 03

    Make, mess up, make again

Small classes mean plenty of one-to-one help. Over the six weeks you'll throw, hand-build, trim, glaze and decorate — building a small collection as you go.

  4. 04

    Take it home

Everything you make gets bisque-fired, glazed and fired again. We hand it all back at the end — kiln firings included in the course price.

"You will always leave happier than you arrived — in my experience."
